Monument record TQ 76 NW 122 - Roman and medieval building remains, site of the Rochester Castle Pub, Rochester

Summary

The widening of Corporation Street in the 1970's, lead to archaeological works on the site of the demolished 'Rochester Castle' Public House. Roman, medieval and post medieval features were recorded on either side of the Roman City Wall. The Roman remains comprised abundant building debris, including plastered walls. A medieval plank lined pit was also discovered.
