Monument record TR 04 NE 32 - Iron Age/Roman settlement, Crundale
Summary
Two Roman cremation burials were uncovered during excavations in advance of quarrying works in an area to the south of Crundale limeworks. Large amounts of late Iron Age, Belgic and Roman pottery were recovered, and this was seen as further evidence of the presence of an extensive multi-period settlement site. Also revealed was one semi-circular and several linear ditches, post holes, a small second century cremation cemetery, pottery and small finds dating from the early 1st to late 4th century AD.
