Full Description
Pits containing Roman pottery. 8 graves some contained Belgic pottery, others Roman or undatable pottery, One grave contained 4 sherds dated to AD 180-300. Bracelet made from shale and a copper alloy ring in one grave found on wrist of skeleton. Shale dated to Roman period. 112 hob nails relating to a pair of boots/boot were found in grave [990] placed directly on top of the lower legs of the body. One body was placed on their back with arms raised up behind the back of the head. A detailed analysis of the burial evidence has been undertaken. (3)
Pottery is mostly dated from mid C2nd to C4th, but some C1st (Roman) sherds. Ditch contained mixture of pottery dating from Late Iron Age to Late Roman period. Rare Samian ouletted variant Dragendorff form 30 bowl dated AD 70 -150. Small piece of Roman figurine. Animal bone. (1)
Ditches, postholes, portion of cemetery, large timber building. Pottery AD 100 or AD 200. Linear feature containing 17 fragments of pottery AD 120-300. 34 sherds of Thames Kent Ware pottery AD 180-300. 1 sherd AD 120-250. Pit containing 3 pieces of pottery mid AD 100 to early AD 300. 2 sherds of flint tempered ware, bead rim vessels, and rim from a colour-coated roughcast folded beaker - all AD70+.
