Full Description
A total of 81 sherds of pottery. The bulk of the pottery is mid-to-late Anglo-Saxon date from four different contexts. Sandy grey ware. Small assemblage with a limited range of fabrics and forms, the bulk of which probably comes from a single vessel.
Copper alloy utensil with a round section handle ending in an oval bowl with a pair of round holes in its centre. Possibly a strainer or skimmer at one end and the other end of this object has a tri-pronged fork. and three iron objects (possibly all nails - two fragments of a round sectioned rod thought to be the tips of nails) found in the context of the Anglo-Saxon pottery.
Small number of animal bones - mostly mammal (including pig, cattle, sheep/goat, cat as well as mouse, vole and shrew)with a single marine bone and 4 Oyster shells. Marine remains also included frog, fish (herring) and eel. 4 Contexts, all fill of Anglo-Saxon pit.
Washover contained fruitstone and pips, cereal grains (barely and wheat), bean (?), peas and other pulses and crop weeds were present.
Some residual finds such as worked and burnt flint, daub (2 small fragments) and a single fragment of Roman roof tile. See TR 15 NE 445 for undated, medieval and later features. (1)
