Full Description
Area C was a portion of the Grain-Shorne pipeline on a hill to the west of Upper Stoke excavated in 2009.
A pit dating to the Middle Bronze Age was excavated. It is possible that three nearby undated pits might belong to the same period. It was 3m long, 1.7m wide and 0.1m deep.
The Middle Bronze Age/Late Bronze Age was better represented with two field boundary ditches aligned north-east to south-west. There were also two pits dating to this phase and four more likely to have done so. A residual Neolithic worked flint was recovered from one of the ditches. The deepest pit was 0.55m deep.
The limited range of activity evidenced was thought to be a true reflection rather than a result of plough damage to the burried features. (1-2)
