Full Description
Area G was a portion of the Grain-Shorne pipeline immediately in front of a World War Two pill-box excavated in 2009. There did not appear to be truncation by ploughing.
The only features found were a Roman field boundary and two small pits dated to the first and second centuries AD. The ditch was 2.3m wide and 0.32m deep. The pits were up to 0.6m in diameter. One contained two partially complete pottery vessels filled with charred botanical remains. It is thought that this represents a structured deposit rather than food remains left in discarded vessels (1).
