Full Description
In the course of the evaluation on the proposed site of John Wesley School, between Cuckoo Land and Chart Road, Ashford, in 2003, where four flint flakes were found, being the only prehistoric remains on the site. Most of the assemblage was medieval in date, mainly comprising pottery. In addition, later brick/tile, metal, charcoal, glass and burnt clay remains were also found. The entire pottery assemblage is believed to date from the mid 12th to 14th centuries, whilst the metal, brick and tiles are of much later date (18th to 19th C.). Evidence for medieval activity is concentrated along the northern edge of the site, where evidence from possible post holes and gulleys suggests the existence of a medieval farmstead. No evidence of Iron Age remains found nearby at Brisley Farm extend into this site.(1)
