Full Description
Area Three of Friars School excavation, Great Chart, Ashford, 2008.
Excavation area three was located over the site of the former school tennis court adjacent to the school's entrance. Features were mainly post medieval in date, having experienced more recent development than areas one or two and comprising: drains, ragstone walls, pottery, a clay pipe stem (dated AD 1580-1910), peg tile (dated AD 1600-1800) and post holes. The features found in area three are believed to be the result of the development of the 'Rectory' building in the 19th century. Little evidence was found to transition between the medieval and post medieval. (1-2)
