Full Description
Excavations undertaken around the White Horse Stone site in the Medway Valley between Oct 1998-Mar 1999 by Oxford Archaeology. The site consisted of three areas along the CTRL line; from west to east: the ‘White Horse Stone site’, the ‘Pilgrim’s Way site’, and the ‘West of Boarley Farm site’.
The settlement appears to have been abandoned by the late Iron Age, though ditches containing Roman pottery respect its perimeters. The fields were thus probably still farmed. A track running N-S across the White Horse and Pilgrim's Way sites is presumed to form part of the Roman Rochester-Hastings road. (1)
