(TR 14935765. Sited from plan CAT Ann Rep 1979-80 p.6). Belgic, Roman and Saxon Occupation. This area of the Marlowe Car Park was completed in November 1980 after a six month excavation. The earliest phase was of Belgic occupation and consisted of two lengths of a curving ditch. The ditches were levelled ground AD70 and fence lines erected in their place possibly as property boundaries. The early Saxon period was represented by 13 sunken floored buildings of 6th-7th century date. Later Saxon occupation consisted of a tenth century cellar and a large lined pit.
