Full Description
Watching brief undertaken by Oxford Archaeology Unit during 1999/2000 north of Westernhanger Castle, as part of the CTRL works. Prehistoric to post-medieval activity was found.
Early-Mid Iron Age activity is suggested by a small quantity of residual sherds, though no features can be attributed to this phase. In the Late Iron Age a rural landscape can be identified, consisting of rectilinear enclosures, a droveway, two stuctures, and several pits. This landscape extends for at least 170m and extends beyond the limit of the area investigated. (1)
