Full Description

Rectilinear enclosure with entrance at west corner and track along east side, assoc linear feature runs from near the entrance to the northwest, also ring ditch at TR 29876556 and two small Ring ditches at TR 29766560. (1) Thanet cropmark plot shows additional larger ring ditch, below the 2 small features. (2)

The cropmark traces of the enclosures and trackways described have been mapped from aerial photographs: Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007, 05-MAY-2018 and 14-APR-2015 as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. The remains appear to represent part of a double-ditched rectilinear enclosure on the eastern side of the field at TR 2985 6541. A curving double-ditched trackway extends past the NW corner of this enclosure heading SW and then southwards. A broup of three or four rectilinear enclosures are attached to the western side of this track. The trackmeets a gently curving W-E trackway which has a T junction mid-way at TR 2966 6540 which branches south between larger ditch-defined fields. To the east of the modern trackway along the N-S field boundary at the eastern side of this field there are further cropmarks of a large rectilinar enclosure TR 26 NE 246. However, the presence of this track and field boundary and a large modern agricultural pond obscure the cropmarks making it difficult to ascertain a connection between the two sites. Cropmarks of ring ditches and a smaller rectilinear enclosure are also visible. These features are recorded separately (3-5)
