Additional Reference(10)

In 1976 gravel extraction was planned for an area previously identified as having numerous cropmarks. Excavation ran from May until November and found a mass of pits, ditches, round huts. A 'mini-hill fort' was found at the north end of the site. Following the abandonment and filling in of the 'mini-hill fort's' ditch, large open areas of settlement of the Middle and Late Iron Age were established. These were in turn overlaid by a Late Iron Age and Roman field system. A Roman corn drying oven was found in an earlier excavation of 1975. A timber building with double lines of post holes may be of early Anglo-Saxon date. A ring ditch was also seen adjacent to the excavated site. (5)

A small Roman inhumation cemetery is also described as being located in this area. (10)
