Full Description
Watching brief undertaken by Kent Archaeological Projects in 2009 during the laying of a water main between Chilham and Godmersham. Evidence of a Late Iron Age / Early Roman settlement was found. This consisted of 8 ditches, two post holes, two rubbish pits, another possible pit, and a probable occupation deposit. Pottery dates the site to c.40 BC - c. AD 100. It is suggested that the area uncovered is the periphery of a larger site, and the presence of floor tiles suggests buildings in the near vicinity. (1)
