Full Description
In 1991 an archaeological evaluation was carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at various sites along Thanet Way. Two possible ditches contained Medieval pottery sherds; 10 sherds dating to the 10th century were found and 1 dating to the 11th century. The other pottery find were from two pits. The first was a small sub-rectangular pit which containe c10 sherds which appeared to make one vessel and were fairly worn. They dated to c.1150-1225 AD. The other pit was circular and conatined pottery, oyster and Roman brick also. 1 sherd was dated c.775-850 and Anglo-Saxon. The others were later, 6 dating c.1150-1175/1200 and another hserd was c.1175/1225. (1)
