Full Description

Between 2009 and 2011 Archaeology South-East carried out a programme of works on land north of Leysdown Road, Warden Bay, on the site now occupied by Warden Bay Primary School and land to the east of it. Some evidence of Middle to Late Bronze Age activity was found on the site, this consisted of truncated pits and ditches. Activity intensified on the site in the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age with the digging of storage pits, ditches, gullies and the construction of post built structures. Many of the pits had been used for the disposal of domestic refuse and possibly as cess pits. One pit or ditch terminal on the edge of the excavated area contained a possibly deliberately placed pottery deposit. (1)
