Full Description
In 2004 Oxford Archaeology carried out an evaluation at East Hall Farm, Sittingbourne. A medieval ditch of 12th century date was found. (1)
In 2005 Oxford Archaeology excavated the area. A medieval enclosure was found around the Early Bronze Age round barrow ring ditch. This positioning could have been coincidental. No features were found within the enclosure and pottery from the ditches dated it to between the mid 12th and early 13th centuries. Ditches of a field system were on a similar alignment and may therefore be of similar date. A number of intercutting quarry hollows, pits, post holes and a gully were also found. One pit had stake holes in its base and one outside of it though the exact function of this arrangement could not be determined. (1)
