Full Description
In 2006 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an excavation. The earliest phase of activity on the site consisted of numerous pits. One pit had a wicker lining. Saxon pottery of the 7th century was found and was the only dating evidence for this phase. A variety of animal bones and marine shells were found in the pits.
The second phase of activity consisted of two converging ditches which produced pottery dating from the 8th to mid-9th century.
The third and final phase of activity dated from the mid to late 8th century to the mid-9th century. Two pits and a ditch were found. One pit was filled with large lumps of daub, thought to have come from a nearby structure and to have been disposed of in the pit. Two possible hearths were found in the upper layers of the pit.
