Monument record TR 06 SE 18 - Roman Site at Lavender Farm
Summary
Roman site at Lavender Farm
Summary from record MKE115895:
In 1989 the Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a rapid excavation following the discovery of Roman features during topsoil removal. The excavation discovered two medieval ditches but all the remaining features seemed to be 2nd centry in date. These included a possible rectangular building and courtyard/road, an expanse of iron slag indicating a nearby furnace, a shallow ditch and numerous pits. Finds included iron slag, pottery, fragments of a wooden bowl, box-flue and roof tiles. This may indicate that a villa site lay to the south of this industrial area.
