Full Description
In 2007 Oxford Archaeology carried out an evaluation. Roman field ditches were found crossing the site. (1)
In 2008 Oxford Archaeology carried out an excavation. In the late Iron Age or Early Roman period a natural hollow filled with silt deposits was enclosed by a ditch. Both were overlain by alluvial silts and a Late Iron Age gold coin was found within these. In the Roman period a building, evidenced by two beam slots, was built to the west of the hollow. The remains of a hobnail shoe were found within the building. Ditches were found either side of the building and may have been part of a field system. The building may therefore have been of agricultural use. A second structure was found to the south east, consisting of a possible cellar with a beam slot, two post holes and several stakes holes in its base. (2)
