Full Description

In 2009/10 Archaeology South-East carried out a strip, map and sample excavation. A large number of features were found relating to the use of the area in the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age. A droveway crossed the site, as did a later metalled hollow way. The focus of settlement appears to have been to the south of the site. Pit groups were found, along with post holes, possibly forming fencelines and post built structures. Pottery, briquetage and animal bones were found in the various features. Once the droveway had silted up and gone out of use, a field system was laid out across the area to the west. The metalled hollow way was laid out later still. Activity in the area appears to tail off in the Middle Iron Age. (1)
