Full Description
Excavations along the East Kent Access Route, at the southern end of the Ebbsfleet peninsula revealed Late Iron Age - Roman activity. This was limited to a pair of relatively large and somewhat irregular east-west ditches and some other slight features. The larger southern ditches were up to 2m across and approximately 0.7m deep. They would have surrounded the southern edge of what was probably a peninsula surrounded by water (except to the north). Further north on the peninsula Late Iron Age – Roman pottery was recorded in small quantities from a number of features though only three additional features have been assigned to this phase in this area. These comprise a three shallow linear ditches or gullies (possibly forming part of a field system). (information summarised from source) (1-2)
