During the East Kent Access Route excavations (2009-2011) a small middle to late bronze age agricultural settlement was found in zone 12. The settlement consisted of ditches, gullies, pits and four cremation burials, mostly found in the western part of the zone.

At the western end were three small ditches and two gullies. One curved in an arc and was truncated by an iron age ditch. It contained a large amount of middle bronze age pottery.

Slightly to the east a pit contained 55 more sherds of middle bronze age pottery.

The remaining ditches have all been dated to the late bronze age with some perhaps extending into the early iron age. They may have included a small enclosure. One feature was a large tree-throw and contained 28 sherds of middle to late bronze age pottery.

Four possible bronze age cremation buirials were found. Three were located in a group. One contained 43 sherds of late bronze age pottery but no cremated bone and may have been a cenotaph rather than a burial. The other three cremations all contained bone but no dating evidence.(1)
