Full Description

During the East Kent Access Route excavations (2009-2011) the southern part of an oval or sub-circular late bronze age interrupted enclosure was discovered occupying a slight knoll. There were three segments with openings of 1m and 3m width though there is a suggestion that the main entrance may have been in the eastern side of the enclosure, largely outside the excavated area. A human skull was found in the westernmost segment. The enclosure cut two earlier but still late bronze age ditches. Within the enclosure a large pit contained 20 sherds of late bronze age pottery.
