Full Description
During excavations in 2004 carried out at land adjacent to the Tesco Store, Manston Road, Ramsgate, Archaeological features relating to several phases of activity were uncovered. The first phase identified dated to the Middle-Late Bronze age and comprised a trackway, ditches and possible enclosures
This period can be dated from c. 1500-900BC within this three possible distinct phases were identified. The first of these comprised twenty NW-SE aligned linear features which may represent a track or hollow wat that has been repeatedly recut across the landscape probably by the frequent passage of livestock. It is possible that the depth of these hollow tracks was enhanced by the digging of manure from the traditional drove routes to place in the surrounding fields. The second and third comprised groups of ditches which appeared to represent parts of an two enclosures. Several groups of pits and groups of post holes were found close to these features and may represent structures associated with them. (information summarised from source)
