Monument record TQ 87 NW 37 - Prehistoric pits and ditch, Middle Stoke

Summary

An evaluation trench during work on the A228 revealed a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age ditch and pit. The pottery removed from the fill of these features was dated to c.700 BC, and fragments of shell and flint were also recovered. A possible circular pit was also found and this contained Romano-British pottery. Medieval pottery was also found in another possible pit feature althought this had been partially destroyed by a 20th century drain.
