Full Description

A Canterbury Archaeological Trsut Monitoring of the work on Folkestone Transfer Pipeline uncovered various Bronze Age-Early Roman fatures and finds. These are detailed below in the order they are presented in the report summary which is based on the location of the features/finds:

Various features cutting natural brick earth were identified at Gravel Lane, Hougham which dated to either the Iron Age or Roman periods.

Gravel Lane also saw the uncovering of a Late Iron Age cremation cemetery.

A straight ditch at Hougham Court Lane was identified and given a Bronze Age/Iron Age date.

A Middle Bronze Age pit cremation was identified near Church Hougham.

Roman field ditches were identified near Hougham Church.

A single pit with substantial pottery evidence from the Bronze Age/Iron Age was uncovered East of Plough Hill.
