Monument record TR 36 NE 677 - Anglo-Saxon and medieval features, Margate to Broadstairs pipeline installation.
Summary
During excavations relating to the installation of a pipeline between Margate and Broadstairs between 2005 and 2006 a total of 619 features and a vast assemblage of finds were discovered. A proportion of these were from the Anglo-Saxon and Medieval periods.
Note: The large number of features and finds over a very broad geographical area meant mapping accurately where each monument is along the pipeline and classifying monuments chronologically would have led to an unclear number of records. Thus monument mapped as a single linear feature and separated chronologically. Where apporopriate the excavation area where features were located has been recorded.

Full Description
During excavations relating to the installation of a pipeline between Margate and Broadstairs between 2005 and 2006 a total of 619 features and a vast assemblage of finds were discovered. A proportion of these finds and features dated from the Anglo-Saxon to Medieval Periods and were located in Areas 7, 8 and 14. (See Report SKE29263).
The features included an Anglo-Saxon sunken featured building, a medieval wall, and a medieval bakery as well as a series of ditches, gullies and pits.
A vast amount of ecological data was reocovered. The sheer quantity makes it impossible to record accurately. It is recorded as the large quantities of animal and plant remains on the Monument Tree.
