Full Description

The possible site of a Roman villa and accompanying buildings dating to the third century AD.

During archaeological investigations a large aisled barn was discovered implying the existance of a possible Roman villa complex. No absolute proof exists but investigation of aerial photographs of the fields to the north of the site suggests that there may be further buildings present. (1)

The archaeological evaluation was undertaken by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust in advance of a proposed housing development. Significant Romano-British activity was encountered in the south-west corner of the site. This included general occupation soils and pottery. (2)
