Full Description
The desk-based assessment undertaken by Swale and Thames Archaeological Survey Company for land at Thorn Farm, Stone Street, Stelling Minnis, has identified a series of features from aerial photography and mapping to the south of that land that may relate to a possible large Roman building with associated earthworks and cropmarks. The field containing these features is adjacent to Stone Street, a Roman road. The report states:
"It is of some importance that just south of the proposed development area cropmarks have been identified as 'former field boundaries' (TR 14 NW 13) and work for this desk-based assessment has identified a possible large Roman building and earlier earthworks associated with these cropmarks." (1)
