Full Description
During work at Dover Priory in the late 19th century the remains of the Trancepts and Nave were noted under Effingham Street.
Taken from source: 'The ground to the east of the Refectory and cloisters, which has since been laid out in streets and rows of houses, was then a field, covered in many parts with scattered blocks of masonry, while here and there the foundations of wall were exposed or might be detected by the turf, with which they were covered, rising above the surface. […] it seemed however, most probable that part of the priory church stood in this direction. […] the foundations of a church of very considerable dimensions were traced, with its nave and side aisles, the piers for supporting a central tower, the trancepts, with double apsidal chapels, and what may be presumed to have been a chapter house, adjoining the north trancept'.
