Full Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology at Russell Street car park, Dover, ahead of plans to construct a multi storey car park at the site. Three trenches were excavated revealing a series of deposits dating to between the early Medieval period to modern. Trench 2 revealed numerous pits and post holes cutting a series of cobbled and chalk floors which may be broadly dated to the 12th-16th centuries. The post holes likely represent the former presence of timber framed buildings at this site. (1)
