Full Description
WWII anti-tank blocks located along the Pegwell Bay coastline, visible on military aerial photographs taken in 1941 [1]. They were intended to impede the movement of enemy forces inland.
The blocks extend south from Cliffsend Point following Sandwich Road to a sluice gate where they continue south along the Boarded Groyne feature to a military structure (possible pillbox) located beside a jetty on the River Stour, measuring a total of around 2km. The shape, and therefore the type, of the structure is difficult to ascertain from the photographs but appears to measure approximately 5.8m by 4.7m and is thought to be a pillbox.
The blocks and the structure were first visible in February 1941 and were mapped from two series of photographs [1, 2]. Both features are gone by April 1950 [3].
