Full Description
Five WWII gun emplacements visible on aerial photography taken in 1946 [1, 2], located in Kingsdown. The bank and ditched emplacements measured 15m x 15m; 10m x 15m; 15m x 8m; 10m x 11m; and 12m x 17m (north to south). The emplacements were located directly at the coast, between 13m and 33m from the cliff edge. These earthworks were partly visible on aerial photography taken in 1941 [3], the southern circular emplacement was visible and other anomalies, though it is difficult to determine specific features. The features were not visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [4], excepting the northernmost emplacement, which was possibly still present as a low earthwork.
A single gun emplacement (MWX43502) lies to the south of this site, and a collection of three emplacements (MWX43504) lie to the north.
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
Only 5 gun emplacements encircled.
