Summary

WWII beach scaffolding visible in 1941, 1942 and 1943, located between North Ward and Deal. This structure was generally below the high water mark. The structure was of a single thickness in its northern stretch, but became double thickness just S of Deal Castle. The scaffolding was no longer visible in 1946 and 1950 or 2003.

Full Description

WWII beach scaffolding visible on aerial photographs taken in 1941, 1942 and 1943 [1 to 6], located between North Ward and Deal. This structure ran for approximately 4300m and was generally below the high water mark. The structure was of a single thickness in its northern stretch, but became double thickness just S of Deal Castle (MKE7308). Breaks were seen in the scaffolding. The scaffolding was no longer visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1950 [7 and 8]. Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [9 to 14] showed the site to be absent.

The scaffolding joined another stretch to the N (MWX43276) and one to the S (MWX43630).
