Monument record MWX51423 - Second World War trench, Hythe Firing Ranges

Summary

A Second World War trench is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs within the sandy dunes of the Hythe Firing Ranges (Monument Number 1531850) opposite Pennypot. The short trench system measures no more than 33meters in length. The trench is located within a polygonal area of barbed wire obstructions (Monument Number 1532878), suggesting this trench was to be used as a defensive firing position. Slit trenches are also recorded nearby (Monument Number 1532874). The trench was subsequently levelled after the war.
