The report details the results of an archaeological watching brief of land off Coldharbour Road. Taken from the Report: "Summary: Wessex Archaeology was appointed … to carry out an archaeological watching brief on land at Coldharbour Road, Gravesend, Kent (hereafter referred to as ‘the Site’)… The watching brief comprised the archaeological monitoring of ground reduction across the Site down to the archaeological horizon identified in the archaeological evaluation carried out by Wessex Archaeology (WA) in March 2012. All works were carried out using a mechanical excavator with a toothless bucket, under constant archaeological supervision. The watching brief took place from the 18th to 22nd June 2012. The full excavation of the Site down to the archaeological horizon revealed the full extent of the Neolithic/Bronze Age ditch recorded during the archaeological evaluation. Upon further investigation this feature was reinterpreted as an oval shaped pit. A shallow posthole was also recorded during the watching brief. These two features contained similar deliberate backfills but no datable evidence. It is suggested that these two features are contemporary and can be broadly dated to the Neolithic or Bronze Age as was concluded from the artefacts retrieved from the archaeological evaluation. The watching brief also revealed the absence of archaeological features and deposits across the rest of the Site suggesting an area of low activity."
