Title ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT LYDD QUARRY, LYDD, KENT (PART 17)
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2008

Abstract/Summary

A further phase (Lydd 17) of the continuing watching brief maintained during topsoil stripping and groundworks in advance of gravel extraction at Brett's Lydd Quarry, has revealed remains from two broad periods: prehistoric, perhaps Bronze Age, and medieval/post-medieval. The prehistoric remains comprised a ditch, a possible hearth and five spreads of worked flint. Possible medieval/post-medieval remains comprised two pairs of parallel ditches probably delineating trackways/droveways and further elements of the extensive field systems previously recorded. Probable remnants of natural channels were also identified.
