A series of 19 evaluation trenches dug arounf the former Marine South Barracks. Most of the excavated features appeared to be ditches and gullies superimposed over one another relainting to field systems prior to the barracks. No clear dating has been produced by probably ranges from the prehistoric era up to just before the building of the barrakc. In additon there seems to be evidence of casual use of the site during the LBA-EIA. Other features found were of demolished barrack blocks built atoun 1860 and demolished a hundred years later.
