Monument record TR 15 NE 1780 - Early Medieval and Medieval remains, New Grange House, Canterbury

Summary

Archaeological excavation in 2004-5 discovered 11th or 12th century cultivation soils, refuse pits and a boundary ditch. In the 12th century a building range was constructed, perhaps part of the abbey's reredorter (lavatory). In the late medieval period (13th-16th century) a building range was constructed in the east of the site consisting of a main building, an extension and a walled courtyard. A southern range tied in with buldings previously identified in 1903 and 1907 and may relate to the abbey's infirmary chapel. Post-dissolution demolition debris and garden features were also discovered.
