Monument record TQ 77 SW 1136 - The fragmented cropmark remains of a possible later prehistoric settlement mapped from aerial photographs

Summary

The fragmented cropmark remains of a possible later prehistoric settlement mapped from aerial photographs. The site appears as a number of incomplete ditch-defined rectilinear enclosures (the most complete of which measures 44m x 32m), pits and linear ditches, and a possible trackway. The site lies adjacent to the cropmark remains of three possible Bronze Age round barrows which have been recorded separately (NMR Monuments numbers: 416913, 1544039 and 1544045). The cropmarks of the ring ditches and the settlement coincide and it is not possible to tell from the aerial photographs which site predates which. These features were all mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
