Medieval ditches and a pit thought to represent part of a medieval settlement were identified at Melbourne Avenue, Ramsgate during an evaluation in 2021. (Location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information). Two ditches and one possible ditch were identified during the evaluation. The visible extents of the ditch sections measured between 1.8-2.23m in length, 0.71-1/76m in width, and 0.18-0.60m in depth. Finds associated with these features included 27 sherds of 13th-14th century pottery, marine shell (oysters and barnacles), accasional inclusions of slag and animal bone.

The pit measured 0.88m in length, 0.71m in width, and 0.19m in depth. Finds contained within the fill of the pit included rare fish bones and whelk shells and a large rim sherd of a 14th-15th century medieval pot.

Other features identified during the evaluation comprise a late medieval or post-medieval quarry, a post-medieval trackway, and an undated post-hole (TR 36 NE 2550). (1)
