Full Description

Gun emplacements of Second World War date were visible as structures and earthworks in RAF/HLA/564 V 6011 01-JUN-1942. The military installation was located immediately to the south of the former First World War semi-sunken hangar at Alland Grange that had been adapted for later military use (MKE125414).

The installation comprised two gun emplacements enclosed by a barbed wire entanglement that articulated with the extensive barbed wire obstacles contributing to the defence of RAF Manston's north-west flank. A track (seen as a soilmark) lead from the main access trackway to the gun emplacements. A spoil heap stood alongside the track. A hut on the main trackway may have controlled access to the gun emplacements and also the former hangar.

These features were recorded as demolished structures and levelled earthworks in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. They were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-2)
