Full Description
An evaluation in 1993 found features that mainly consist of ditches, pits and post holes, with a few possible occupation layers. The area was spread out, centring on approx. TR 2928 3912, with an outlying group of features at TR 2159 3930. Many features contained Iron Age and Roman-British pottery, the occupation sequence complicated by the presence of C13 and C14 material in some features. A fragment of Neolithic flint axe was also located. It seems likely that the Early Iron Age and Romano-British sites overlap considerably, the medieval occupation site appears to overlap the edge of the two former sites. (1)
Subsequent excavation of the area located an Early Iron Age round house with porch, external hearth and outbuilding with rubbish pits, fence holes and finds of Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British pottery. (2-3)
