Summary

During an archaeological watching brief by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in November 2008 on the groundworks of a high voltage cable installation, a series of late Iron Age to early Roman features were uncovered with various associated artefacts.

Full Description

During an archaeological watching brief by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in November 2008 on the groundworks of a high voltage cable installation, a series of late Iron Age to early Roman features were uncovered with various associated artefacts.

The features included field boundary ditches, a group of gullies or a possible trackway, pits, two potential buildings and various post and stake holes as well as plough marks.

Finds included worked flint, a sizeable pottery assesmblage including some noteable fineware, ceramic building material and 5 small finds: a coppr alloy coin, a fragment of blue-green glass, two quernstone fragments from rotary querns and a small assemblage of iron nails.

Occupation at the site seems to have ceased by the mid second century AD.
