Full Description
The anti-aircraft ditch is centred at TR 0860 2745, and measures approximately 272m long WNW to ESE. In 1942 it occupied an open area of ground, but aerial photographs of 2007 show that this area is now under modern housing, and the site of the ditch lies between what is now Elm Road and Laurel Avenue. This anti-aircraft obstacle consists of a straight ditch, flanked on either side by parallel lines of mounds. These are presumably the spoil heaps from digging the ditch; placed in such a way as to provide an additional anti-aircraft obstruction. The ditch and mounds are contemporary with a scatter of anti-aircraft poles (Monument Number 1535076) which also occupy what was then an open space at St Marys Bay (1-2).
