Summary

A single line of Second World War barbed wire is visible on aerial photographs of 1942 in what is now the area of the Army Cadet Force Training Centre, St Marys Bay. This feature was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project.

Full Description

The barbed wire is centred at TR 0855 2763, and measures approximately 344m long SSE to NNW. It breaks at the point of the Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway (Monument Number 1357333). It is associated with other Second World War defensive features, such as the anti-aircraft ditch at its southern end (Monument Number 1535103), and two pillboxes (Monument Numbers 1422543, 1535459). By the time of the vertical aerial photograph of 1946; the barbed wire had been removed (1-2).
