Monument record TR 03 NW 146 - Area of late Iron Age / early Romano-British settlement Cheeseman's Green Area 5

Summary

Archaeological work from 2004 to 2016 across the Cheeseman's Green area found in Area 5 a large number of features dated to the late Iron Age / early Romano-British period. A large subrectangular ditched feature at its eastern end, and a number of field or enclosure ditches. Structures were also evident with curving gullies representing the remains of two possible round-houses. A possible four-post granary-type structure was also identified. Many other post-holes and small pits were also recorded, with a particular concentration within one of the enclosures; Two cremation burials are also present, located in different parts of the excavation area.
