Amended description following Phase 1 of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey:
A military camp built as part of Richborough Port, (MWX43487), a major WWI port serving allied troops on the Western Front. As with the other camps at Richborough Port, this camp was probably also composed of wooden huts - see Related Monuments.
After WWI the camp was decommissioned and the majority of its buildings appear to have been removed; the site was mostly empty and grassed-over with only some buildings at the extreme northern end on RAF vertical aerial photographs of the site taken in the early 1940s [2]. These photographs show a network of faint linear marks in the grass which are probably derived from buildings associated with the camp [2]. The buildings at the northern end of the site have since been removed and are not visible on recent aerial photography of the site [3].
