Full Description

A series of field boundaries were located that were interpreted as part of a prehistoric field system. An interrupted field enclosure ditch of probable late iron age/Roman date and part of a wider system was also found and dated by pottery finds.

Further east a series of postholes and small pits produced pottery of late bronze age/early iron age date. These were cut by further pits and postholes of late iron age/Roman date. Some of these contained briquetage, indicating on-site salt production. Further east more late iron age/early Roman ditches were found that may have been part of the wider enclosure system.A corn-drier or malting oven was also noted though not excavated. Given the briquetage it may have been related to salt woking though.

A number of additional linears contained 1st-2nd century pottery. These were probably part of a field system.(1)
